TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the House of Assembly (Tasmania)

The petition of the undersigned citizens of lutruwita/Tasmania including renters, homeowners and displaced peoples.

Draws to the attention of the House the continuing housing crisis that sees thousands of Tasmanians living without a home and tens of thousands more paying or unable to pay extortionate rents.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to:

  • Support legislation that will permanently restrict short term stay to the primary residence of any homeowner;
  • Support legislation to permanently cap rents at a maximum of thirty percent of the income of tenants;
  • Support legislation that will permanently ban the eviction of any tenant without good reason;
  • Support legislation to build or repurpose a minimum of 10 000 dwellings for public housing by 2030; and
  • Support legislation that will guarantee housing for all and secure housing as a human right.
