The petition of the undersigned residents of Tasmania draws to the attention of the House the urgent need to legalise Voluntary Assisted Dying within Tasmania. Palliative care cannot always relieve the intolerable pain of those with a terminal diagnosis nearing the end of their life, despite the best of intentions and efforts. Many terminally ill patients unnecessarily experience intolerable, prolonged pain. These people should have the right to die a peaceful death in a place and time of their choosing. Tasmanians deserve freedom of choice. Your petitioners therefore request the House to support the forthcoming End of Life choices (Voluntary Assisted Dying) Bill 2020
