Save East Launceston Recreation Ground

The petition of the undersigned citizens of Tasmania draws the attention of the House to the proposal to take over an area of valuable land and the sports pavilion fronting Oxford Street, East Launceston, all owned by the East Launceston Primary School Parents & Friends Association Inc., to construct new school buildings on part of this recreational area and green space known in the general community as "East Launceston Oval" and exchange part of a sports field of lesser value, owned by the Crown, to the ownership of the East Launceston Primary School Parents & Friends Association Inc. Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to request the Department of Education to withdraw from consideration to use any part of the East Launceston Recreation Ground for construction of school buildings & instead consider prudent and feasible alternative sites for the school's expansion.
