The petition of the undersigned Citizens of Tasmania draws the attention of the House to the extensive clinical evidence to support the use of medicinal cannabis to alleviate pain and associated effects of treatment for terminal and debilitating illnesses. Presently, production of and access to medicinal cannabis is illegal in Tasmania.
Tasmania is best placed to grow cannabis for medicinal purposes due to our natural security and climate as demonstrated by the poppy industry.
Your Petitioners are disappointed the Tasmanian Liberal Government is not prepared to allow further investigations on this matter.
Your Petitioners therefore request the House to make the necessary legislative and regulatory changes to permit a clinical trial of medicinal cannabis production, processing and administration in Tasmania, and if the results of the trial are deemed safe call upon the Tasmanian Government to move to legalise the production, processing and administration of medicinal cannabis, under supervision by medical practitioners, in the interest of our economy and the health and well-being of Tasmanians.
