Tasmanian Citizens draw the attention of the House to the escalating dangers encountered by cyclists and vehicle users when travelling on the Channel Highway between Proctors Road, Bonnet Hill and Taroona, one of the most popular cycling and tourist routes in Tasmania. This section of the Channel Highway has no option for vehicle overtaking and has extremely poor sight distances. Coupled to this there is minimal side shoulder width and steep slopes into the roadside drains. This adds to the dangers when cycling near the road edge. Your petitions, therefore, request the House to support the urgent construction of a dedicated bitumen bicycle lane on the uphill sections of Channel Highway from Proctors Road, Bonnet Hill to Baringa Road, Taroona.
