Tasmanian Residents draw to the attention of the House the need for a thorough review of the Tasmanian Disability Education Support System. Parents of students living with disability are highly concerned by the poor educational outcomes their children are receiving due to the current disability education support system. Parents want a review of the current support system so that all students living with disability regardless of their IQ or the severity of their disability will receive adequate educational support when attending Tasmanian schools. Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to respond to parents' concerns by: 1) Acknowledging that the current Disability Education Support System does not provide adequate educational support for students living with disability in Tasmanian schools (Primary, High School and Colleges). 2) Calling on the Minister for Education to immediately initiate an independent thorough review of the Disability Education Support System which includes input from students, parents, teachers, Principals and other professionals who support students living with disability both within and outside the school system.
