TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the House of Assembly (Tasmania)
Tasmanian citizens draw the attention of the House our grave concerns about the announced cuts to front-line health and police services and intended closure of 20 schools. Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to call upon the Government to delay the construction of a new school at Port Sorell to: (a) make immediate savings in capital and recurrent expenditure; and (b) enable the Minister to issue a statement outlining the educational, economic and social impact of the new school for the Port Sorell community and also the Wesley Vale, Moriarty and Sassafras Schools and their communities. As construction is allegedly due for commencement late October pursuant to correspondence from Minister for Education, The Hon Nick McKim dated 11 October 2011 this matter is urgent.
