Electors of the Division of Bass draws to the attention of the House the declining health of the unique ecosystem of the Cataract Gorge and the silt problems besetting the Tamar River largely caused by the insufficient environmental flows released by Hydro Tasmania. Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to pass the Motion tabled by Kim Booth MP on 20th October 2010 calling on the Minister for Water to enter immediate negotiations with Hydro Tasmania to vary the condition of the Special License of Division 6 of Part 6 in the Water Management Act 1999 to increase the environmental flow through the Cataract Gorge to at least 3.6 cumecs.
