We, the undersigned Residents of Tasmania, draw to the attention of the House that ongoing use of 1080 poison in Tasmania is cruel, indiscriminate, and an outdated practise that does not have a social license. The impact of archaic 1080 on threatened wildlife, including Tasmanian devils and quolls, and the risk to pets and livestock is inexcusable in a biodiversity crisis. Safer and effective alternatives for wildlife and land management are available. The decision to revoke the ban on 1080 in Tasmania was regressive and urgently needs rectifying.
Your petitioners request that the House call on the Government to:
1. Immediately ban the use of 1080 poison in Tasmania.
2. Support landholders to adopt humane and sustainable alternatives.
